Migrating to PostHog

Every published migration path to PostHog. When it's the right choice, when it's wrong, and how to get there.

PostHog is product analytics, not marketing analytics. If you migrate from GA4 expecting better Acquisition reports, you’ll be disappointed. Migrate to PostHog when you actually need session replay + feature flags + funnels — not just because GA4 is annoying.

When PostHog is the right destination

  • Product-led SaaS, mobile apps, marketplaces, dashboards
  • Teams that need feature flags + experimentation as part of analytics
  • Organisations that already speak in terms of cohorts, funnels, retention curves
  • EU-compliant deployment (PostHog Cloud EU exists)

When PostHog is wrong

  • Content/marketing sites that mostly need traffic source reports
  • E-commerce that cares about merchandising analytics
  • Teams without product-event taxonomy (you’d be building one before migrating)
